{"id":1197,"date":"2025-10-01T06:26:15","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T17:26:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/daveforcouncil.nz\/?p=1181"},"modified":"2026-04-29T22:34:51","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T10:34:51","slug":"letter-frustrating-campaign-of-misinformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/exposures.co.nz\/?p=1197","title":{"rendered":"Letter: Frustrating campaign of misinformation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/easternbayapp.co.nz\/news\/articles\/68d1df4d4bb2cb00ebf22f77\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source<\/a> Dave Stewart <a href=\"https:\/\/easternbayapp.co.nz\/news\/articles\/68d1df4d4bb2cb00ebf22f77\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PDF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If one thing has characterised the local body election campaign this year it has been the number of times those of us on the side of facts, truth and honesty have had to correct the deliberate misinformation churned out by people without real policies.<\/p>\n<p>In The Beacon issue of September 17, A Broxholme recycles the nonsense regarding the boat harbour \u201cmillions\u201d and Rex Morpeth Park \u201c$100 million\u201d development, and endorses a less democratic and more authoritarian approach from the next mayor, as long as it\u2019s the one he wants and not one of the other five.<\/p>\n<p>Again, the boat harbour \u201cmillions\u201d was not ratepayer\u2019s money, it was Harbour Fund money and again, the truth about Rex Morpeth is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of the LTP process, including public engagement and submissions, councillors ultimately agreed the following parameters for the future investment into the Rex Morpeth Recreational Hub&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Integrate a stop\/go decision-making point into the 2027\/28 Long Term Plan regarding the Rex Morpeth Recreation Hub\u2019s redevelopment budget.<\/li>\n<li>Retain budget allocation for co-funding the Rex Morpeth Recreation Hub project.<\/li>\n<li>Prioritise health and safety, making the building watertight, and functionality-focused improvement works during the next four years, up to $7.8 million.<\/li>\n<li>Finalise the master plan for the hub and explore the feasibility of a separate indoor court facility.<\/li>\n<li>Develop an external funding plan before the next Long Term Plan.<\/li>\n<li>Advance discussions with potential partners for the Rex Morpeth Recreation Hub redevelopment.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This campaign of lies and misinformation has found it\u2019s way into the election campaign meetings now and the problem is that candidates have a limited time to address audiences with their policies and vision for a better Whakat\u0101ne, without having to correct politically motivated BS.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s frustrating to be diverted by deliberate misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>The question must be asked that if candidates don\u2019t have policies to offer, why are they standing?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This campaign of lies and misinformation has found it\u2019s way into the election campaign meetings now and the problem is that candidates have a limited time to address audiences with their policies and vision for a better Whakat\u0101ne, without having to correct politically motivated BS. <span style=\"color:#777\"> . . . &rarr;
