Borrowing for tax cuts.

Matthew Hooton:

The National Led coalition will need to borrow $28.7 billion cash over their first 4 full financial years.

That’s up $22.2 billion from the $6.5 billion four year cash deficit forecast in the Half Year Economic and Fiscal Update.

Over the same 4 years the National led coalition tax cuts will cost $14.7 billion.

The numbers don’t lie.

There is no doubt.

The National led coalition is borrowing to fund tax cuts.

It is simply untrue to say the tax cuts have been paid for by spending cuts.

Astoundingly the National led coalition plans to spend $2.6 billion more in 2024/25 than Grant Robertson planned in his last budget.
